“Management is doing things well; leadership is doing the right things” Peter Drucker The above quote reflects two important words; things and law. What's interesting about the two words in the quote is that the arrangement of the two words from the first part has been swapped to create another unique sentence with the same two words in the second sentence. This arrangement gives the two statements two distinct but related meanings, and this article seeks to give more meaning to the two parts of the quote through the concepts of “Knowing Yourself,” Understanding Others, “Leading with Integrity and Moral Purpose,” and “Leadership Pragmatics'.“The definition of management is equated with the systematic enforcement of standardized and impersonal expectations. In management, the use of authority is prevalent, and there is a heavy reliance on coercion and punishment to enforce rules and ensure compliance. of subordinates” (Rost, 1998). Management is an act as well as a skill and is a term used to describe the management of a business, a department of a company a relatively large amount of authority imposed compared to leadership. Leadership is defined as “a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal” (Kruse, 2013). Management is about doing things well – “Good morning people! It's Monday morning! Back to work! The weekend is over!” my boss barked as he walked in this morning. Our office is constantly filled with the roars of our boss as he shouts at us to order. Sometimes it's unimaginable that a woman can be so ferocious. But we knew that behind that facade was an attitude to greatness and perfection. Management basica... at the heart of the paper... is management.
