Abortion: Be Pro-LifeHow would you feel if someone took away your ability to live without asking you? Babies have no choice in their mother's womb. If a woman decides to abort her baby, there is nothing the baby can do to ensure that her life is taken away. Their entire future is gone. Abortion is wrong when it is done for a selfish reason. Abortion is and will likely always be a highly controversial issue in the United States. Abortion procedure has been legal in the country since 1973, the battle for abortion rights continues until this year 2015. Abortion is legal but it is not right and there are many different problems with this procedure such as medical, ethical, physical and social issues. Abortion is such a selfish act that one can decide on. Although there is one situation I can understand: in the United States there are approximately two million infertile couples waiting for adoption, many times regardless of the child's medical problems such as Down syndrome, spina bifida, HIV infection or terminal illnesses. (Brown). Dr. Brad Imler, president of the American Pregnancy Helpline, confirms the challenge of expectant couples by stating: only 1% of the Helpline's 40,000 annual clients request information on adoption. (Brown) We need to stop referring to adoption as giving up a mother's child. It's not giving up, it's choosing life over death for those who can't decide for themselves. The most common medical problem associated with abortion is infection, a potentially serious and life-threatening problem. Abortion can also cause excessive bleeding and damage to the uterus, the female organ in which the fetus develops. A medical, rather than surgical, procedure can further reduce the health risks of abortion.
