The rich continue to invest in schools and education for their children, adding extracurricular travel and educational experiences, at their expense. “Today, on a national scale, funding per student ranges from approximately $6,000 in a poor community like Nampa, Idaho, to nearly $20,000 in a high-income community like Arlington, Virginia” (Macionis, 2015, p.390 ). Private and charter schools have developed for those with the ability to pay, as well as extracurricular programs that increase a student's chances of improving grades, such as Sylvan Learning programs. Schooling in poorer communities had to be funded to standard, giving the student the opportunity to receive an education after secondary school. Funding would come in the form of a grant or grant, funded federally, through the state, or through a pooling of funds within the school.
