Orean War The Korean War was seen as a turning point for the Cold War, but the world is still left in confusion and tension is still high between Korea of the North and that of the South still present today. On June 25, 1950, the Cold War had become heated and the involvement of the two major superpowers, the USA and the USSR, contributed to increasing tension. The Korean War was one of the first major steps taken by America in applying the new containment policies. The Korean War was considered the “forgotten war”; although thought to have been forgotten, it had a major influence on the worldwide Cold War, communist growth, and modern Korea. In the final stages of World War II, Soviet troops quickly moved into Korea. When the United States learned of this progress they were shocked and moved into Korea as well, to prevent the Soviets from turning all of Korea into a satellite state.
