This can be seen in films as well as television shows. The media has also influenced the issue of domestic violence when dealing with people of different cultures, but often focusing on men. The media industry portrays all racial and ethnic groups, but I believe that the ideas of men holding dominance, power, and control are more relevant to men of different cultural backgrounds. This is true because there is so little representation of these individuals as they are in the media and when they are shown it is usually in a negative way. For example, Muslim men and other Middle Eastern men are often seen playing terrorist roles, Latino men are often portrayed as criminals, boxers, or tough guys in Barrio gangs, and Asian American men can often be seen practicing martial arts or being portrayed as violent criminals. These characteristics are also available to other racial groups, and African American men may often be seen as drug dealers or criminals. Portraying male characters in this way has helped our society learn to associate men of all different cultures with domination and dominance
