Once Upon a Time is primarily a television series about various enchanted lands with real people. Many of these enchanted lands have magic, giants, and fairytale characters known from the stories viewers read and listened to while growing up. Unlike stories, these situations are actually happening. Unlike the stories we remember, these fairy tale characters struggle to maintain their "happily ever after." While the stories that viewers heard growing up ended, the stories of “Once Upon a Time” continue. Rumplestiltskin, called Rumple, is one of the central villains of Once Upon A Time. The TV show showed him plotting to place a dark curse on the land called the Enchanted Forest to try to reunite with his son, Baelfire (also called Bae). The Enchanted Forest is tied to the new town of Storybrooke. Rumpelstiltskin demonstrates various psychological and personality traits that will help us understand him as a villain. Rumpelstiltskin demonstrates narcissistic traits by being persuasive and constantly plotting. Displays selfish behavior, need for respect, and lack of sympathy for the sacrifices of others (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: DSM-IV., 1994, p. 661). This diagnostic list for narcissistic personality disorder lists the main personality traits of the villain. I will reveal how Rumple's actions fit into this and other personality disorders. Gaining infinite magical powers, Rumple is asked to make deals with others, but many of these deals always end up being difficult for the person asking. This difficulty has resulted in many learning that all magic used comes with a price. It was revealed that Rumple was the one who presented Regina, the other central villain, with the curse that was used to send the characters to Storybrooke; ho...... middle of paper ......ity that an individual needs who does not feel adequately equipped or inclined to the problems of life (Ciccarelli & White, 2012, p. 512). Rumple demonstrated many of these traits and others of Alder's theory. Another of Adler's theories holds that several pathological personalities can be formed, however, Rumple is the dangerous dominant dominant type, characterized by an active and aggressive attempt to master their lives and the people in them. Having this personality type compromises one's ability to form Adler-like, which is known as social interest, a sense of connection and empathy for other individuals (Bickhard, 1976, pp. 29-30). Rumpelstiltskin's long-lasting anxiety began when he found himself helpless, but also with the fear of being weak again. He would rather lose everything than accept taking anything less than absolute power.
