This semester has been important in understanding mental health for social workers. Mental health has the same dimensions as drug and alcohol abuse. bio soc= psy. These tools are so important for understanding why our minds and brains work in certain ways that other people don't. So, mental health is a complex issue because each individual brain works in different ways. On some occasions they follow the same patterns and treatments, but may have different results. Human beings are complex. Even if people have the same symptoms, they need different treatments because they have different reactions. It is important to distinguish between mental health and mental illness. According to the CDC, mental health is “…a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her own well-being ”. his community." While mental illness is defined as “health conditions characterized by alterations in thinking, mood or behavior (or a combination thereof) associated with distress and/or impaired functioning”. When we experience good mental health, we have flexibility in our life, social sense of well-being, productive behavior, clear thinking, sense of belonging, resilience to stress, empathy, stable relationship, respect for self and others, we are optimism and spirituality, which is not a bad religion. However, on some days of our life, we can feel like we are in trouble because our mind sometimes does not work very well if we have stressors that we cannot easily resolve. For example, some students feel depressed during final exams because they feel that their final tests and essays cannot be done in a given time. Some of them are... middle of the paper... of this society and need more support to live in this society where they are sometimes rejected because they are not "normal". As social workers, we must help these people and provide the best treatment and therapy possible. However, we have to be honest and we are not always able to solve every single case. By doing so, we can refer cases to other social workers who can work to provide the services clients require. In my opinion, mental health is so complex. I have had other approaches to mental health because two of my sisters are volunteers in NAMI, so they have provided me with some information and perspectives. Also, I saw mental health from a different perspective because in my culture it is taboo to address any issue related to mental problems. It is difficult to erase this negative vision. Therefore, I have worked to be more sensible and more responsible in my opinion on this topic.
