If the symbolic interaction theorist did not label these students as "trouble makers" or "disruptives", then fewer students would be sent out of school or into youth facilities. The structuralist functionalist would say that having students be disruptive helps create jobs in youth departments and prisons. Additionally, since schools have a zero tolerance protocol, jobs are created for more law enforcement to be present in schools. Students should not be punished differently because of any of their attributes that make them an individual. Education is one of the most precious gifts and all African Americans, Latinos and Caucasians should be given the same opportunity.
