Context: My earliest childhood memory, and probably my fondest, was when I was 4 years old and my father had just bought me a Lego set. I didn't have a clear concept of what exactly I had to do, but I remember feeling an engaging thrill every time one piece fit perfectly into the other. Growing up, I often accompanied my grandfather to work at the Indian Railways. The mere idea of being able to manage hundreds of railways across an integrated network where there was no margin for error scared me. Perhaps the main reason I attribute for inculcating interest in this specific profession has to do with the nature of my country. Growing up in India, you are always exposed to hours of endless traffic and not forgetting the growing population. The cities continue to grow but the streets remain the same. As a result, there is heavy traffic congestion, inadequate parking and no space for pedestrian movement. My main intention is to develop roads in India and contribute to the transportation system. It was a combination of these moments that began an unquenchable desire to learn more about the planning field and contribute everything I could. Since then, my dreams and goals have been set. My research journey began when I decided to opt for a degree in planning. And luckily I went to School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal (SPAB). Experience: My foundation for the future has been strongly laid by the education I received from the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal (SPAB). I have been involved in many projects and assignments that have further broadened my horizon of knowledge. I have been part of an esteemed international project in Bhutan “Samdrup Jongkhar Urban Development Plan in......middle of paper.... ..I have completed many seminars to understand my study better; some of which include: “Professional Practice as a Planner” and “Importance of Pedestrians in Transportation Planning.” Future Plans: I think a planner should have knowledge of planning policies and guidelines of different parts of the world. When I was a bachelor, we were taken to different parts of India and Bhutan. During these trips I gained immense knowledge of planning guidelines and policy making. Now I think I should pursue a masters degree outside India to improve my knowledge on planning in different countries. In addition to that, my interest in urban and transportation planning and how we can connect them to make the atmosphere of a city perfect, forces me to opt for a course that contains urban planning and later I can specialize in planning of transport.
