She was close to Arnold during the time he left his family. Arnold and Suzy became close and Arnold told stories about Victor and other stories in general. During Suzy's flashback, Arnold's pickup wouldn't start. He claims he doesn't usually have this problem, but Suzy doesn't care. Personally, I think right now it shows that he's not running away anymore, but in a way he's still not where he belongs. At the end of the flashback, Suzy tells Victor to go to the trailer where he lived and that's when Victor changes, but he also realizes that his father never intended to leave, both mentally and mentally.
