The reason why people try to escape from prison is due to poor treatment, horrible facilities and daily violence. Prisoners are treated like animals. They are locked in their cells and can roam freely at set times. Isolating these criminals for life is more inhumane than killing them quickly. DP is used so that criminals do not have to suffer this humiliation for the rest of their lives. Prisoners live in a constant struggle to survive the suffering resulting from rape and violence in their cell. Compared to a terrorist like Osama Bin Laden, which choice would you rather choose: live a life full of humiliation until death or be “martyred” by capital punishment? It is society's job to punish these inmates, but not to torture them as these actions dehumanize who they are. The role of prison is to contain criminals, not to torture or humiliate them. Being sent to prison with LWOP is already a harsh punishment because they will no longer be able to integrate into society. When the court sentences a person to life imprisonment, what does it mean? Is the court punishing them by sentencing the criminal to be humiliated, tortured and raped? If not, the judge should simply pronounce the punishment instead of assuming it includes torture and humiliation. The sentence should be taken literally and the criminal is not convicted
