Huggins in his book closes "the pure Harlem Renaissance" in 1930 (1971,303). Furthermore, Lewis, who got the title of his book from Langston Hughes, ends the New Negro "vogue" with the Harlem riot of 1935 (1981, 306). In later productions, Huggins and Lewis shift their periodization, going back similarly to 1917 and because Huggins moves forward similarly to 1935. Both researchers emphasize social, political, and social history and use markers that show those interests. Clearly, these indicators provide important useful purposes for observing New Negro writing. However, to chart the landscape of the New Negro movement in writing we should look at what journalists expressed and decide when they began to show in writing the different views, thoughts and universe of the New Negro, even if perceiving that Close examination of the writing reveals conflicts, tensions and nerves between its authors.
