DISCLESHIP AND MISSIONTHE TASK OF THE CHURCH TODAY Throughout the dawn of time man has faced many aspects when understanding a theological understanding of discipleship and Christian mission. Mission can be classified from both a systematic and applied theological perspective. Within systematic theology it is found in “ecclesiology”; a central component when analyzing church doctrine. Within applied theology it is nested in the scriptural foundation. From a biblical perspective, mission coincides with the Great Commission, which all Christians are mandated to uphold. “The followers of the earthly Jesus must make others what they themselves are: disciples”. The Bible instructs the believer in discipleship. Discipleship should be the core of the Church and permeate every aspect of its overall mission. A Christian who neglects to express Christ's love for humanity through compassionate service is not living a life of full discipleship. The task in making disciples is to provide a mission statement that clearly outlines helpful and achievable ministry practices. Mission is understood as a critical component in the life of the Church; however, in real practice, it is often overlooked. Everyone likes the theory, but implementing an effective mission leaves many perplexed and perplexed as to where to begin. Mission in its previous sense was thought to be focused exclusively on saving lost souls; however the mission is transforming.
