There have been many studies conducted on complaints against police officers when they are equipped with body cameras versus when they are not. In all studies conducted, complaints against police decreased when they wore body cameras. There are two different points of view when it comes to this issue. Some believe that people are simply making up complaints against police officers. While others believe that when their actions are recorded, people tend to behave better. In any case, it has been shown that when police wear body cameras, complaints against them are reduced. For example, in one particular study, the Mesa, Arizona police department conducted a side-by-side study of 50 officers wearing body cameras and 50 without. The results after eight months: Officers equipped with body cameras received complaints from 8 citizens while those without had 23 complaints. Since citizens regularly capture police incidents on their cell phones, the department's spokesperson Mesa police Steve Berry said the department wanted to have its own video "to tell the whole story or certainly both sides of the story”
