"The public wants a general emergency service, available to handle problems as they arise" (Katz & Walker, 2008, p. 10). The burden of all this is left to the police, every hour of the day, every day of the year. Needing, given the scope of its responsibilities, a range of specific role designations best suited to managing its maintenance variants. These include and replace the community's attitudinal perceptions and their observations of specific news events. This links directly to the recognition of a difference from the reality of law enforcement and its popular representations. Shown through an exploration of current news based on the four core perceptions of the role of the police. That is, as an organism focused on fighting crime, social services, maintaining order and preventing crime. Seen from the perspective of each independent role through the media's discernment of an event. Notice that one set of fictions persists, forcing a range of different impressions in its wake. Highlighting here an imperative standard of recognition of police responsibilities and roles for the works to remain effective. Fundamentally, when the media and the public portray law enforcement as mythologized figures with singular focuses, communities suffer from the resulting misrepresentation. The first police role that looks at this is that of the crime fighter. A cloak widely maligned through stereotypes and romanticized ideals of its reactive functions. Therefore expectations often exceed possible possibilities and result in a common reaction. However, the concept of some police responsibilities aimed solely at fighting crime is not unilaterally wrong.
