Question 38Power, money, political party, and career are four major factors that influence how Congress votes. These factors can weigh heavily on a congressman or woman when choosing what they believe is the right vote. Whether the vote benefits those they are voting for or whether selfish reasons are jeopardizing their vote, which has been criticized by many tax-paying citizens who want the money to go into programs, services and projects to improve the nation. Congressional votes should always benefit the country as a whole, not some people. Power is the primary influence on members of Congress. Without power there would be no need for money, for people who want the best career for reasons other than success, and for Republican and Democratic parties dominating all parties with other points of view. Power is the great or marked ability to do or act, strength, might, strength. A certain member or party that has a lot of strength in Congress can persuade other Congressmen or women to vote for what they are told. The people who are deceived into the schemes tend to be young members or those seeking approval and power themselves. These plans and desires for control can cause loss of trust and criticism of the government, not just Congress. If members are found guilty of pressure, payments of money, among other things, they can be prosecuted. Ultimately, this costs the country money to hold a trial that will most likely go to the Supreme Court which has enough trials to deal with. Not all members of Congress play mind games and vote for what they believe is best for the public good. The hard part is voting for who you think is the best person to make those decisions. Money is a powerful tool to influence anyone, not just people who... jobs, members of Congress must please the majority of a state and the nation. Citizens are the people who help campaign and vote to re-elect you or to have someone replace you. Members must remember this when they vote and consider voting for what the majority in their state wants, even if he or she does not agree. If they don't listen to the residents of the state who are the voters, it can lead to someone sitting in their previous seat. All four of these pressures on how Congress votes can likely be positive or negative depending on who you ask and what you believe. Many things could happen if vote-getting tactics were discovered. This could lead to less and less public trust in government, which could cause a lot of things to happen. But for now, you should vote for who you believe supports the nation and not just the city or state they're from.
