This stereotypical view of non-believers has actually turned many away from the church and the Christian faith. A recent survey by “Relevant Magazine” asked a group of people identifying as atheists and agnostics, who had previously attended some form of modern Christian church, why they had left the church. Over 85% of people surveyed blamed harsh, critical Christians as the main reason they turned away from the Christian faith. The method of evangelism employed by the modern church can easily be misinterpreted as someone judging them for what they are. Church leaders should consider the outsider's perspective because their perspective and response is the only measure of the effectiveness of their body of Christ in their lives.
