The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a population of almost 9.2 million people in 2012 (World Bank) and produces over 48,951,000,000 kWh. (NationMaster.com). It has the world's sixth largest proven oil reserve and fifth largest natural gas reserve. However, despite all this, the UAE's electricity generation methods will soon come to an end. There are many ways to generate electricity, and each has advantages and disadvantages. The main way to generate electricity is probably through fossil fuel plants. However this is not a renewable energy source. There are many other ways that countries use to generate electricity such as solar energy, wind energy, wave energy, and magnetic energy. In the United Arab Emirates, natural gas and oil are used to generate electricity. Natural gas is a fossil fuel formed when layers of buried plants and animals are exposed to intense heat and pressure for thousands of years. The energy that plants and animals originally got from the sun is stored as carbon in natural gas. Natural gas is burned to generate electricity, allowing stored energy to be transformed into usable energy. It is a non-renewable resource and is running out. The process works by extracting natural gases from the ground and then treating them. Gas is treated in gas plants to remove impurities such as hydrogen sulfide, helium, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and moisture. It is then transported through pipelines from gas plants to power plants. They then use different methods to convert the gas into electricity. A more common approach is to burn gas in a combustion turbine to generate electricity. Oil is another way the UAE generates electricity. Oil is found underground...in the middle of the paper......it emits electricity and produces no pollution in the process. It is a reliable source of energy. This is because the sun always rises and sets every day, even if the clouds are unpredictable we can still generate some energy every day. Furthermore, it is a safe solution and no one will be able to steal it. From an economic point of view, solar energy helps to save a lot of money. It also offers job opportunities. It creates two to three times more jobs than using natural gas. There are also some disadvantages to using solar energy. The biggest disadvantage of using solar energy would probably be the fact that the sun doesn't shine 24 hours a day. When the sun sets there is no sun and therefore the photovoltaic panels will stop producing electricity. This would mean that in addition to solar panels, another energy source needs to be used to generate electricity when sunlight is not available.
