Topic > Iceberg Titanic - 674

The tip of the iceberg. This is what sank the greatest ship of its time. It's the reason why 1,500 people died in one of the world's deadliest maritime disasters. The Titanic. When it was built, the Titanic was the largest and most luxurious passenger ship of its time. It was also considered completely unsinkable. The hull weighed a total of 25,000 tons and used 825 tons of coal per day. The Titanic had three bronze propellers that weighed 92 tons. So it was obviously a very heavy ship and couldn't turn quickly to avoid icebergs. The time elapsed between sighting the iceberg and impact was 30 seconds. 76% of the crew and 80% of all male passengers on board died. Only 25% of the women on board died. At the time of the destruction of the Titanic, the water temperature was -2°C and it took scientists 74 years to discover the wreck of the Titanic. For much of the voyage, the two wireless radio operators on the Titanic received warnings of icebergs, some were passed over the deck, and the captain changed the ship's course slightly to head further south. However, he maintained the ship's speed of about 40 kilometers per hour. Many of the warnings were never relayed to the deck of the Titanic. At 10.55pm a nearby vessel reported that it had stopped after being surrounded by ice. Two lookouts were stationed in the Titanic's crow's nest. At around 11.40pm they sighted an iceberg and the bridge was alerted. The first officer ordered the ship to "steer to starboard" and reverse the engines. The Titanic began to turn, but was too close and too heavy to avoid a collision. The side of the ship scraped against the iceberg. At least five of his supposedly waterproof documents... in the center of the paper... placed on the ship. The Titanic had its own newspaper prepared on board the ship. In addition to news articles and advertisements, it contained a daily menu, the latest stock prices, horse racing results and company gossip. Initial headlines of the Titanic disaster claimed that all passengers had survived and that the ship was being towed ashore. At first most passengers did not believe that the Titanic was actually sinking, hence the low number of 19 people on board the first lifeboat, even though it could carry 65. One of the more exotic items in the Titanic's cargo was " The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam", a book of ancient sayings. The copy was adorned with 1,050 precious stones, each set in gold. This is the story of the unsinkable ship that sank. To conclude I leave you with these famous words “but I'm too involved now. You jump, I jump. Remember?” and “I'll never let go…I promise.”
