Life is all about change, progression and evolution of the psyche. Everyone interprets their life experiences differently, and those interpretations can lead to personal growth and maturity. This concept of progression prevails in Emerson's composition and interprets humanity as imperfect but seeking perfection. Emerson believes that people are more than capable of deciding for themselves what they like and what they despise. According to Emerson “the individual is the best art critic”. Based on Emerson's words and my own personal experience, I believe that while one may be changed in some way by events, one can maintain one's identity in a global community. Everything in life serves as an example of an art form, according to Emerson, “because it is alive, moving, and reproductive.” When we consider this fact and apply it to our daily lives, we appreciate the smallest details of entities once thought insignificant. A work of art must not dazzle; sometimes, the simplest art forms speak the loudest. You can marvel at the sight of a bird in flight and feel the same level of awe you would feel at the sight of a charging grizzly bear. We don't need to travel the world to experience vestiges of ancient cultures when the splendor of our own backyards offers the same depth and excitement. Art speaks to all of us in some way; therefore, universality exists as an important quality possessed by art. Just as everything in life is beautiful, so is humanity. There is nothing more beautiful in humanity than the soul, Emerson pontificates, because it constantly evolves and possesses universality. Emerson assumes that people are not aimless sheep who monotonously follow orders. If we can create beauty, we can ... middle of paper ... n evoke as many emotions as an epic made by Hollywood's top talent. Unfortunately, people cannot accept the fact that they consider rubbish that someone else might consider treasure. But good art will speak to those who are touched by it. As Emerson stated, “it wasn't painted for them, it was painted for you.” In summary, the advantage of having an individual opinion proves invaluable when asked to criticize a composition. Possessing free will gives us the ability to enjoy a particular work, regardless of popularity or quality. Once we remove the underlying message of the work, we walk away better, because art has educated us. Then we use that knowledge and apply the same message to our lives, because art has inspired us. In conclusion, the work fulfills its intended purpose and contributes to the persistent growth and development of the human soul.
