Their race has led to mass incarceration of people serving longer sentences for minor charges and long criminal records just because the system believes more in incarceration rather than focusing on the root of the crime. Yet race is imprisoning those who identify as African American because they have always been seen as those committing the crime. It may be difficult for some people to come to terms with, but the black race is doomed to jail or prison more than anyone else. It is not because they are the most likely to commit crimes, but they are always victims of the causes of such crimes. This book helped me put everything into perspective, as if this system was built with so many things that it would take the same amount of time to complete it.
