Depending on the tactics used, some of the strategies used by the film industry to prevent individuals from copying and sharing copyrighted films will work, however, most will have little to no effect. A common tactic used in the film industry to combat film piracy is the development of short advertisement-like clips set to play automatically before a feature film's presentation begins. The clips are designed to appeal to the viewer's ethos – who inherently knows that stealing is wrong – by listing things they supposedly wouldn't steal, ending the clip with the words: “You wouldn't steal a movie. Downloading pirated films is theft, stealing is against the law. PIRACY: IT'S A CRIME"....
