Domestic ViolenceDo you know what domestic violence is? Domestic violence occurs when someone has suffered physical, emotional, or mental abuse. Some signs of domestic violence are when your partner humiliates you, threatens to kill the individual or himself. Someone who has experienced physical, emotional, or mental abuse is normally more aware of the signs. This essay will cover the harmful effects of physical, emotional, and mental abuse. Physical abuse occurs when someone puts their hands on an individual or family member. “Domestic abuse is defined as physical, sexual, emotional, or financial violence between current or former partners in an intimate relationship” (Bostock, Plumption, and Pratt 95). What the quotes say is domestic violence does not mean there is only one type of abuse. Several people who crossed my path suffered physical abuse. One woman suffered severe abuse, resulting in a severe concussion. “In addition to the physical injuries already reported, ranging from bruises to death, abused women suffer from health and psychological problems” (Davies 5). People who suffer abuse not only suffer from external wounds but also internal ones. Of all types of emotional abuse, it is the most difficult to overcome. “Victims of domestic violence often suffer from depression and other emotional harm related to the persistent degradation of their self-esteem and psychological functioning following the abuse” (Gerdes 42). Victims of domestic violence spend a lot of money on counseling to get help. “They have significantly higher levels of anxiety, depression, and somatic complaints than women who have not experienced such abuse” (Davies 5). House viola sufferers... halfway through the document... are released within 24 hours. Americans believe that abusers should remain in prison for more than 24 hours after being arrested. The abuser always seems to have people on his side as opposed to those actually experiencing the abuse. Domestic violence happens all over the world and not only against women but also against men. “Violence against women is linked to feelings of depression, anxiety, fear, guilt, shame and stress for the victim, an increased risk of completing suicide and physical health problems” (Bostock, Plumpton, Pratt 96). Physically putting your hands on a woman can cause women to have many problems with themselves and others. Causing them to think horrible thoughts about themselves or others because of what they have been through. They face problems that most people don't face, they have to suffer living in fear for the rest of their lives.
