Topic > A Career in Healthcare Administration - 807

I have been a junior at George Mason University since August 2013. I have matured and learned more than I thought possible. I came to George Mason University after earning my bachelor of arts degree from Northern Virginia Community College. I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a healthcare administrator. Every individual learns differently and college has helped me revisit my learning style. While in college, I realized that I was a visual learner. I learned best when case studies, videos, and scenarios were integrated into my professors' teaching style. By knowing my learning style, I was able to get more out of the lessons I was taught and understand the material better. In my healthcare administration courses, I learned the criteria for being a leader and managing the organization effectively. Healthcare administrators are healthcare professionals because they make sure the business runs smoothly and that people receive the best care possible. While I was in high school, I always had a passion for helping people. I knew I wanted to pursue a management career in healthcare. After high school, I completed a nursing assistant program and worked in many nursing homes in the Southern Maryland and Virginia area. I was promoted to lead nursing assistant due to my excellent leadership skills which included information, mentorship, accountability, and accountability. I enjoy all aspects of my job except the compensation and changing the elderly's diapers daily. I chose to go back to school to pursue a career I enjoy and to earn more money to support my family. I researched qualifications from numerous healthcare fields before finalizing my decision. I wanted to become a healthcare administrator because I am an excellent...... middle of paper...... George Mason University and pursue the career I wanted to pursue. Oral communication has always been one of my strengths, but when I was faced with “Yes” or “No” questions, I found it difficult not to please the other person. Moving beyond this helped me realize that I needed structure. I also understood that people would follow me; I won't follow them. My leadership style has changed from servant to transformational and I no longer worry about meeting the needs of others. Instead, I learned to make positive changes in my workplace and change things up to keep the environment interesting. I'm happy I made friends while I was in college and hope to stay in touch in the future. Overall, college has been a life-changing experience and I know that post-graduation will be the start of a wonderful career and future for me and my family.
