If you search my name, you'll see that there are a hundred thousand complaints, but nobody does anything." Operator: “When was the last time you called the police?” Cook: "Um, two weeks ago, and they just told me not to open mine. And everything else." The above transcripts are from several 911 calls made by Deanna Cook over a period of several months while the her ex-husband stalked and terrorized her. Deanna's last 911 call lasted 10 minutes, ending in her death. yet it was his family who discovered his murder. Intimate partner violence (IPV), the researcher's term for domestic violence, occurs more than you might think and is not a uniquely U.S. problem, but a global concern. Why and how is IPV a global concern in the modern era? Surely no woman in her right mind would choose to stay in an abusive relationship? Unfortunately, until recently, IPV was rampant, overlooked as a problem only between partners and not a public health issue.
