At the age of 15, Amy Purdy decided she loved snowboarding. When she started snowboarding, she learned to have confidence in herself and love all the good things in life. When Amy was 19, she was excited about her future and what lay ahead, but she never thought about what would happen next. At age 19, Amy had Neisseria meningitis, which led to the failure of her kidneys and the removal of her spleen. But this also caused both of his legs to be amputated as his body went into shock. His body cut off blood flow to his legs to help save his organs. But she is very healthy to this day. Before, during and after this tragedy came into his life, he knew that snowboarding would forever be a part of his life. When he was in the hospital, all he could think about was how he was going to snowboard again and what it would take to get back on a board. Before losing her legs, Amy was a masseuse who loved snowboarding and wanted to see the world. With her future changed, Amy was still determined to do the same things she did before, just differently. He knew he couldn't stop, because stopping meant giving up the most important things in his life. While Amy was in the hospital, she says her doctor told her, whatever you believe, think about it now. When this happened, Amy thought about love. He believed in loving life, loving each other, and loving snowboarding. Now, this is what inspires her today. Even though he loved snowboarding, he never thought about going to the Olympics until he lost his legs. He participated in the 2014 Sochi Paralympics and won a bronze medal. She also started Adaptive Action Sports to create opportunities for people with physical disabilities... middle of paper....... Amy shows her determination by getting motivated to snowboard again after getting sick. He is strong because he is able to move forward and continue to do good or evil. He inspires others by sharing with them his journey, but also how he overcame his disability. Amy inspires me because not only does she have the ability to fight her challenges, but she has this great outlook on life. He had the strength to continue trying to pursue his passion. She inspires me because she doesn't want to become famous because of her legs. He wants to take advantage of the situation and use it to inspire people everywhere. Amy Purdy has special qualities within her that should be recognized, not just her legs. That's how he inspired people. She continues to be a hero because she wants to show people that they can overcome their personal obstacles.
