As Obama stated in Proclamation 9255 declaring April 13 National Equal Pay Day, “Wage inequality affects all of us, and each of us must do more to ensure that women participate fully and equally in our economy" (Obama). It will take more than one person and a day to fix the pay assigned to men and women, but it has to start somewhere. “Individuals are encouraged to learn to value their work, become familiar with salary scales in their field and learn to negotiate. Businesses are urged to offer transparent compensation information to employees, and to hire and pay without prejudice” (Goodale). We, as individuals and as a whole, must work together to learn and teach others to see men and women and their abilities as equal. It won't be easy, but it must be done for the good of all women, of the families supported by a woman's salary and of the whole world.
