Using power theory in this quantitative study, the author talked about the hidden relationship between culture, essentialism and poverty in India. The author explored the link between social class and power. Power is a factor that keeps a person in one social class or another. In India there are many social classes, classified according to social status and power. Through the results of the survey that the author carried out for study purposes, a direct relationship between power and social class was identified. Power comes with money. In India, the more money you have in the bank, the more influence you have on others. A person living in poverty cannot have any kind of power to exercise even over people of his own social class. Mahalingam (2003) attempted to establish a strong association between poverty and social class of people. Brahmins are the most superior social class in India, whose power can be exercised over all other social classes.
