To the men within the sex slave industry who use it as a business to make money. These men can range from slave traders to brothel owners. Slave traders are sometimes the ones who lure girls under false pretenses and receive the girls by taking them or having them offered to them. An example of slave traffickers is a group called the Red Mafia, a criminal group known for trafficking women and weapons across borders (Kara, 2009). Brothel masters run their business by purchasing slaves from slave owners (traders). In the book Sex Trafficking inside the business of Modern Slavery by Siddharth Kara (2009) he talks about business practices within the sex trade system. In 2007 a sex slave was worth around US$1800 and the income for the sex owners was around US$1 billion. At times, brothel owners and pimps could make a profit of $600 million from their girls. Purchasing the average sex slave for around $1,800, sex slave owners earn huge revenues by having girls have sex with other men (Kara, 2009). The sex trade industry is one of the highest-grossing businesses in the world. Comparing it to modern industries like Google and Microsoft, companies make money and profit but don't have to pay benefits to support their workers. Within the sex trade market pimps and brothel owners give their sex workers whatever income they want and will give the rest themselves. With more sex workers, the less money the owners have to pay. Another benefit for sex trade owners is the need for more sex slaves. More sex slaves are in demand due to the male population involved. Men who find joy in going to brothels several times a week or in the midst of paper people's lives. Women are taken out of their homes or lured into the sex trade business unaware of the risks and environment they will face. Some women may be diagnosed with HIV due to multiple sexual partners; while other women suffer physical violence from suitors and employers. Women face multiple challenges within sex trade businesses, but employers appear to take advantage of their difficulties. For their employers it's a question of money and how much they can earn. They use it as a job rather than a hobby. Men benefit from withholding money because the money women earn goes towards the debt they owe their employers. There are actions out there that try to prevent human trafficking and sex trafficking. Things like the TVPA set standards for countries to make an effort to stop trafficking within their nation and to help women exit that environment.
