Zakir Hussain and the "Masters of Percussion"The distinguished genius of modern-day classical tabla, Zakir Hussain conveys vivid performances that have established him as a national symbol in his native India and one of the most popular and dominant musicians in the world, famous for his collaborations with musicians from all over the world. "Master of Percussion" is the touring group of Hussain, his father and other members. They have been touring successfully in the West since 1996. Joining the group in 2014 were musicians from India and a member of Western society who is also one of the best Western drum players. I am very happy to have the opportunity to see these drum masters in one place and appreciate their virtuosity. It was a great concert that took place on April 4, 2014 at the Chicago Symphony Center. I'll tell it to you just as if you were there. Zakir Hussain is appreciated in the percussion field and in the music world at large as a global sensation. A master of classical tabla of the first order, his astonishing and thrilling performances have not only made him one of the finest performers in India but also made him famous throughout the world. He is the master of improvisation accompanied by enormous knowledge and talent. The concert I attended proved the biography I read and then some. He is so talented that he managed to imitate the sounds of Chicago traffic with his tabla (an Indian percussion instrument), as well as different animals and events with many actions, such as how we as an audience would come to see the concert, he drinks something and goes home, played only on his instrument. It was great and a lot of fun. Zakir's knowledge of the tabla came from his father, the legendary......middle of paper......daredevil of his instrument and a highly recognized actor in the Indian film industry. He and Zakir Hussain performed their duet and presented traditional Indian music and its variety. Chavan also played a couple of solo songs to show us his excellence with the dholki. I was surprised by the sound the drum made. I heard both very low and high pitched tones coming from the dholki. This is another traditional Indian percussion instrument that I am now familiar with. I loved the performance of "The Masters of Percussion" which was very different from what I had seen and heard before. I really enjoyed the concert and learned a lot about traditional Indian music and instruments. I would recommend everyone to go see and listen to the "Masters of Percussion" next time they are in Chicago because I would definitely go back.
