For older adults Facebook remains the primary means of social networking, however, as we have become more mobile and social media users become younger, there is a divide where older generations Young people are choosing to move away from Facebook to new social networking sites, in an effort to separate themselves from their parents and older social media users. Another aspect of social media is the impact it has had on traditional media such as radio and television. The most recognizable impact of social media on traditional media is the way in which news is often disseminated via social media rather than traditional media, a trend that has led to situations where news is disseminated via social media which they may not give the complete story or sometimes may not be a true representative of real events. Essentially, because social media has become such an important part of our lives, many users see social media not only as a networking tool, but as a means of staying up to date on the latest news in the world.
