William Wilberforce was not always a religious man. He loved the evolving high society life, gambling, horse racing and theaters. He even owned a racehorse. William gave up anything that could be a distraction from his main goal. He sold his racehorse and gave up all things gambling. William went to live with his uncle in London as a child. There he met a preacher named John Newton who had a strong influence on William's spiritual relationship with God. The friendship between William Wilberforce and William “Billy” Pitt was portrayed beautifully in the film. The two met and attended Cambridge University together and remained friends throughout their lives. Both were accepted into parliament at the young age of twenty-one. Billy was a strong, true friend and supporter throughout William's willing battle. Something that wasn't mentioned in the film was the first time Wilberforce had his first intense conversation about slavery, with one James Ramsay. This conversation took place in 1783 and it was the conversation that burdened William's soul deeply enough to allow him to act on his instincts. The characters in the film who worked hard with William Wilberforce such as Thomas Clarkson and Olaudah Equiano were played beautifully! These
