Imagine the ultimate dream car. Is this a brand new Mustang fresh off the showroom floor? Maybe it's an SUV with heated leather seats. Or it could be something fast and imported, like a Ferrari, a Lamborghini or a Porsche. For some people, dream cars don't come from the present or future, but from the past. But getting the dream car of yesteryear isn't always easy. Many times it rusts in some old barn or field with weeds growing through the floorboard. When someone finds their dream car in that condition, they can do a couple of different things: Build it into a rat rod. A Rat Rod is where the exterior of the car is left rusted and in the shape it was found in, and has a large, powerful engine and a good, powerful transmission. Or the other choice is to restore the car to its former glory. When someone restores a car to its former glory, there are four main categories or steps that they need to perform; body, paint, interior and engine/transmission. The first step in bodywork is to disassemble the car so that it is easier to get rid of all the dents, paint and rust. Then remove all the interior and remove the mirrors, hood, fenders and any extra parts that will make it easier to remove the paint. Paint stripping methods usually fall into two main categories: abrasive and chemical. In abrasive paint stripping there is media sanding and good old fashioned sanding. The way media blasting works is the process of sandblasting an object with small particles of various abrasive substances at an extremely high speed to remove paint and rust from a vehicle. There are many materials used to blow up cars, such as walnut shells, plastic beads, baking soda, and different types of sand. D......half the card......they have less power. If the original transmission is used, this must also be checked and cleaned. If someone doesn't want to take the time to disassemble the engine and clean every little part and then try to remember where each little piece went, the solution might simply be to replace both the engine and the transmission. Buying a brand new engine and transmission has its advantages and disadvantages. An advantage of buying them new is that they have all new parts, are less likely to break, and take less time than disassembling the engine. One downside is that it can be more expensive than just using the old engine. By completing these steps a rusty old car can be transformed into the ultimate dream car. Whether it's transformed into a Rat Rod or a restored classic car, it's worth all that hard work to get the ultimate dream car..
