In doing so, Kayla was one of the first 3 people to compose and illustrate her own story, "The Day I Found a Magic Wand." Her school honored Kayla and her book was published with a copy kept in the school library. In 2008, Kayla was a student in the Leadership class at Cobalt Middle School, where she contributed to numerous fundraisers. Along with a group of 15 students, Kayla was able to travel to Washington, DC as part of a civic and educational field trip. From an early age, Kayla was selfless, benevolent, charitable, empathetic and generous. In doing so, he would spend many untold hours contributing to his community through various organizations such as the Salvation Army, serving meals to the homeless, preparing and serving Thanksgiving and Veterans Day dinners for many men and women who served the our country. Additionally, she enjoyed reading to seniors and helping with today's environmental issues.
