Yet I dared not harm any of them. They fooled us both together” (page 3) This sentence probably hit the core of my feelings. In the Scriptures it is said that Christ was pierced with nails in his hands and feet. I have read about the crucifixion several times and still can't imagine why or how anyone would torture Christ the way he was tortured. The last sentence “They mocked us both together” makes it seem as if the poet was on the cross with Christ. Can you imagine watching Christ being crucified? Having to sit there and watch him suffer excruciatingly for you? Although the people who did this to him didn't know exactly who they were torturing, it was still brutal. Even more, you can imagine him doing all this and praying to God “forgive them for they know not what they do”. Jesus could have easily said “God, I don't want to do this,” he could have unleashed his wrath on the soldiers who had taken him, or on Judas who kissed him on the cheek to signal that he was who they wanted; but Christ is so wonderful and loves us all so much that he endured all torture so that we could have a place next to him
