Fugui is forced to burn his shadow puppets, because they represent traditional China. Fengxia, who is Fugui's daughter, gets married and has a child. During the birth of her son, Fengxia dies. The nurses didn't know what to do and it cost Fengxia her life. The film ends with what remains of Fugui's family sitting down to eat. The film's plot showed the rise of the communist party and included two reforms of Mao Zedong. The film does a good job of including historical events into the plot, without detracting from the quality of the film. Indeed, the historical events depicted helped enhance the plot. The connection between Fengxia's death and the Cultural Revolution was perfectly connected in the plot. Interested in the film, I did further research. After reading about the year it was made and the awards it won, I discovered that the film is banned in China. This made me question whether the Chinese government should censor the film. Looking at the film from the perspective of Communist China, I understand why this is the case
