Topic > The role of alternative energy sources - 1206

Energy consumption in our world is vital, especially in the economy. However, the methods of obtaining energy are harmful in many ways. The worst of many ways is the release of greenhouse gases; these gases are dangerous for the environment, for human and animal health. The causes of all harmful effects come from fossil fuels. These fuels are made up of combinations of hydrogen and carbon atoms called hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons come in many forms, ranging from the smallest molecules and smoothest liquids to the largest molecules and most viscous liquids. There are three types of hydrocarbons, alkanes, alkenes and alkynes. Alkanes are hydrocarbons made up of only single bonds, alkenes are made up of only one double bond and alkynes are made up of only one triple bond. When hydrocarbons are burned in the presence of oxygen (in other words, combustion) the products are water, carbon dioxide and heat, but when not enough oxygen is present the harmful product produced is carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is poisonous and can lead to death if absorbed into the body. Due to these damages, alternative energy sources are created to produce energy. But hydrocarbons are still used today because they are the only major energy source available and most readily available. There are many alternative energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy, hydroelectric energy and many more. These alternative sources may not be as harmful as fossil fuels, but each has advantages and disadvantages. The first example of an alternative source of energy is created by solar energy. Solar energy uses a solar panel to absorb the sun's heat and convert it into useful energy used to generate electricity...... middle of paper ......n this world it is significant and important, so it should be saved , in the process of creating better and equally good alternative fuels! To do this, the alternative energy sources that I have indicated in the previous paragraphs are used, while in the process of creating the perfect, best, non-harmful, non-polluting alternative energy source. I therefore conclude that the role of alternative energy sources in the global energy economy is significant. There are pros and cons that affect both the economy and the environment. Non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels, must be preserved to prevent a crisis from occurring in the economy. There are numerous alternative sources of energy and each type has advantages and disadvantages. Without the presence of alternative fuels, the economy will not remain stable, nor will the environment.
