Determinism and free will are incompatible. Events in people's lives are already chosen for us, or determined. The behaviors expected from people are explained by natural laws and the experiences to which they have been exposed. But this view does not explain people's intuition. However, there is a chain of physical causes that lead to people's intuition. The incompatibility between free will and determinism can best be described by the law of non-contradiction. The law of non-contradiction states that when choosing between two things, you can have one or the other. It is stated that both options cannot be chosen. To further have a clear understanding of this, let's imagine we have to choose between two paths. At the moment you can only follow one path. You can't be on two paths at the same time. This may also explain the incompatibility with free will and determinism. Having both beliefs of free will and determinism, they interfere with each other. A person cannot choose something and, at the same time, claim that it was already predetermined or already chosen for him. Therefore free will and determinism are incompatible. To better understand why determinism is the sole cause of people's choices and not free will, we must first define what they mean. Determinism is the belief that events were created by past events and natural laws. An example of determinism comes from your physical appearance. Your physical appearance has already been determined by your parents' genes, this will later determine what events you are likely to experience in the future. Being very tall, for example, can later determine a person's choice to take up a sport such as basketball. Determinism has already chosen the events for... middle of paper ......situation occurs, determinism can explain intuition. Intuition is formed in our mind and our mind is formed in our brain. Our brain is formed by past experiences and natural laws, so there must be some reason why our intuition is formed by determinism. The constraints that society has for people were already determined and with their influences it can also cause a person to have a determined future. Therefore leading me to believe that determinism is the cause of people's events. While this argument does not explain how intuition was created, natural laws arising from a chain of causes have given me reason to believe how our intuition was formed in the first place. The importance of this topic is overlooked by most of society. Having a choice between determinism and free will can help our society in many ways, such as deciding what punishments should be given to people.
