Topic > Racial Caste System: A Never-Ending Struggle for Equality

If someone is successful it doesn't mean they haven't had difficulties on their path to success. This does not mean that the racial caste system does not exist. Michelle Alexander argued in her book “The New Jim Crow” that “the superlative nature of the achievements of individual blacks today is that in the past white dominions are a good indicator that the old Jim Crow is dead, but that does not necessarily mean the end of racial caste". . Throughout the history of any guide, many have simply taken on a different form." (21) I agree with Michelle Alexander that black individuals who have a kind nature succeed in the white man's world. That's fine, but that doesn't mean black people are equal to white people. One of the reasons I agree with Dr. Alexander is that Jarvis Cotton wasn't allowed to do this. Did it really collapse? There are people who are not allowed to vote because they are black. There are people who are labeled criminals because they are black. When people see black people they think they are drug dealers. Black people still don't have the right to vote just like one of the examples that Michelle Alexander gives us at the beginning of her book, she says that Jarvious Cotton was denied the right to vote because he was black and he was arrested for some reason in his life . Why didn't his father, grandfather and great, great grandfather have the chance to vote? No one was allowed to veto in his family history, Cotton's great-great grandfather couldn't vote because he was a slave, then his great grandfather, was beaten to death by the Ku Kluy Klan because he was a slave and tries to vote, then his father tries to vote and they give him so much that he even had to take the test. It should have been the other way around for those people when the president declared slavery free, but not all blacks were free from their master. This is what President Lincoln tries to do, but nothing happens. the only thing that happened was war and so many people died. Alexander tells us about the Civil War, he says that "first the Civil War had to be won, hundreds of thousands of lives lost, and then - only then will we be slaves throughout the South freed." why they had to fight to gain freedom when “The contitvtiral amendments guaranteeing African Americans will have “equal protection of the law” and have the right to vote.” Did blacks really enjoy the same legal protection as whites? It was not for nothing that blacks lost power and in the camps it was worse than where they were before
