What this journal article is about is different communication patterns and how the role of "noise" comes into play due to different cultures. Within this article there is a model that describes the sources of noise in the patient's communication path. Through the provider's mind and the patient's mind, there are nonverbal actions and words heard that influence the message such as assumptions, stereotypes, language, anxiety, and other disruptions that influence the outcome of the message conveyed.
