Topic > Essay on Democracy of Indonesia - 835

In this essay I will explain the model of democracy from different points of view and also try to discuss my hometown "Indonesia". This essay discusses the extent to which the procedural democracy model fits (and fails to fit) transition theory to explain democratization and focuses on explaining what democracy is? And what is democratization in general with different theories. Also there are explanations about democracy in Indonesia and Indonesia's path towards democracy or democratization. Why do I take Indonesia as a case study? Because in this country there are so many general elections per period, from the lowest position to the highest, for example from village chief to president. I think it's really interesting to talk about democracy in Indonesia. Furthermore, the democratic process in Indonesia has undergone several amendments, as different regimes have adopted different policies. What we can see is that in the “Constitution of Indonesia” there are several amendments regarding general elections and also governments. Before I talk more about Indonesia's situation, I would like to explain democracy itself. Based on different theories on democracy, according to Joseph A. Schmeter on democracy mentioned democracy as an institutional plan to bring about political policy where people get the power to make a decision about what they choose, as a competitive struggle over the voice of the people . What can I suppose that democracy itself “is of the people, for the people and for the people”. So what do we think about democracy? Certainly for the people and by the people. Its slightly different meaning regarding democracy by Henry B. Mayo said that democracy is democracy as a political system, it is a system that demonstrates that public policy is... at the heart of the paper... opposition groups. Based on the discussion of the model of democracy discussed by Arendt Lijphart, namely the Westminster model of democracy and the democratic consensus model. In the following discussion and the conditions applied in the Indonesian situation, the suitable model for Indonesian democracy is the consensual democracy model. This occurs because the Indonesian population exceeds 250 million and is composed of various (heterogeneous) ethnic groups, the role of minority groups is also important in the decision-making process. So that minorities have representation in Parliament. Since the Indonesian population is heterogeneous, a multi-party system is necessary for the aspirations of minority groups to have representatives in parliament. As according to Lijphart, the consensual democratic model provides for the majority in power and the minority in opposition.
