George Santayana explains this well in the quote above when he states: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Taking this into account, let's take a look at the US Congress which is divided into several parties, the main ones being Republican, Democrat and Independent. With the enmity between these parties, Democrat and Republican being the worst, our nation is slowly starting to decay. It's a chain reaction that builds and grows every time these parties have disagreeing ideas and try to change what the other has done before. We as a country must remain united and erase this distance we maintain between us. Our political system is our backbone, so we must engage and start working together, learning from our past mistakes. Today, however, political parties are used simply as superficial labels and to categorize people as this or that." This is a good statement to show how divided America has become.
