In a film Monsters University (Dan Scanlon, 2013) Althusser's theory of Ideology and Ideological State Apparatuses can be seen representing the influence of ideology by the institutions of the Apparatus State ideologies that have an impact primarily on the characters rather than influence of the repressive state apparatus (Louise Althusser, 1970). From the beginning of the society's formation, its members are taught the norms of society and controlled by those who have power over them using two different forms in which government control is preserved. In other words, these norms and values create the identity and attitude of members of society and based on these values control their behavior. Throughout the movie Monsters University, the monster society is mostly under the influence of educational and cultural ISAs. From the first minute of the film to the last, these monsters who are in power indoctrinate norms and beliefs into the minds of the monsters through the education system in schools and universities. From the first scene where the little monsters go on a school trip to Monsters Inc., the viewer can see that Mike Wazowski and other monsters argue about who is the scariest. In this case the film presents the ideological power over society through the educational institution of the ISA, which in this case is represented as the school. Members of society learn norms from the beginning of the educational process. The most important belief is that the best monster is the one that is the scariest, otherwise the scary appearance and skills will lead to success, but they are not given from birth, they must be learned. Wazowski represents a type of person who always follows the rules and is very eager to study the given ideological norms and values, so he comes up with a dream...... middle of paper ......everyone that monster deserves to to be called the scariest, because Mike was inspired to prove his knowledge of being a scary monster to everyone and himself and also to make his dream come true. After Mike is kicked out of the Scary program without even showing his ability to scare, he decides to enter the competition to prove his ability to be a professional scareactor. This institution indoctrinates the norm which can be explained as the ideology of a monster showing his skill and knowledge on how to properly scare and earn respect if he wins. Therefore, by gaining respect, other monsters are becoming more likely to change their attitude and behavior to be like them. According to Althusser's theory, Scare Games are presented as a tool for monsters to have control over members of society and help maintain this control..
