Having observed the inside of a nursery classroom for a couple of weeks so far, it has already become apparent to me the plethora of different needs of children within a single class. Not all students are the same. They differ in the way they learn, the speed with which they collect and absorb information, the way they understand the meaning of things, etc. While meeting these diverse learning needs in a single classroom can be very challenging for a busy teacher, it must be done in order for all students to advance to the next level. I believe it is important for a teacher to be flexible in the methods by which he or she teaches material to students. Changing the method from time to time gives students who struggle with a presentation style a chance to be able to make sense of the ideas represented. Furthermore, it is important to alternate individual lessons, group lessons and classroom lessons to take into account the different strengths and weaknesses of the students. In the particular classroom I observe, the teacher does a good job of meeting the students' diverse needs. Lesson after lesson, alternate doing hands-on activities with giving information to the children verbally. This allows students with auditory abilities along with those who possess visual abilities to have the opportunity to make sense of the material.
