Annie Johnson possessed a myriad of qualities that perpetuated her success. Of the many qualities she possessed, one vital to her success was strength. An example that demonstrates Annie Johnson's strength was when her husband separated her. She, instead of going through a touching period, immediately decided to do something different with her life. For example, when Annie says, “I looked up the road I was going and back in the direction I had come, and because I was not satisfied, I decided to leave the road and cut a new path for myself” (par.3 ) This quote exemplifies Annie's mental strength in changing her lifestyle, which was extremely difficult to accomplish since she had a small amount of money, a slight ability to read and add simple numbers, and was a black woman with 2 young children . Not wanting to leave himself in the care of someone else made his chances of getting a job slim.
