The beginning and end of the Gospel of Mark really support the four main themes present in the Gospel. The four main themes of the Gospel are: enigmatic Jesus, suffering Jesus, low Christology and apocalypticism present in the Gospel. The beginning and end of this Gospel argue that Jesus has been misunderstood because in the beginning there is no story of Jesus' birth or any background information presented, Jesus is simply there. This raises the question: where did he come from and who was he born to? At the end of the Gospel, the tomb is described as empty and the last sentence of the Gospel in Mark 16.8 says: “Then they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid” (1743). This conclusion of the Gospel is enigmatic because there is no mention of Jesus' resurrection or whether anyone ever discovered that Jesus had ascended into heaven. The beginning and the end, not to mention the entire Gospel, leave us wondering many things about Jesus, because his entire existence in Mark is very mine...
