Philosophy of EducationWhat is education? Is it just, as it is defined, the imparting and acquiring of knowledge through teaching and learning? Education is just something you receive in school. Education for me begins at birth; a journey that has begun, as you experience new things, learn and grow mentally and emotionally. When a child starts school, he has learned a multitude of things which include a number of things like walking, talking, listening, this is just the beginning of his learning career. My belief is that all children can learn, that they have the right to be educated and to be safe in the environment in which they learn, these things are a must. To begin with, I believe that any child or person can learn. How much they learn is different as everyone is different. Yes, I know there are children with special needs, but they can learn. Mental development is a must to grow emotionally. Limits should not be set or taken for granted if a child has special needs or is slow. Not all children or students will have the ability to attend level classes, this does not mean they should be considered unworthy of teaching. They need to learn life skills in order to become productive in their life. Learning doesn't necessarily mean it has to be academic. Learning is something people do every day. We need to ensure we produce students who are lifelong learners, and by starting early, we can capture and stimulate their minds. We also have students who have language barriers, I don't think they should be penalized for that; they too deserve to have an education. Homeless and at-risk children also need an education. People often forget that we have this kind of… middle of the paper… now it's something that's at the forefront of every parent's mind. A person can no longer simply walk into a school without first having to provide identification in order to enter the school. Some people find this intrusive, but they need to understand that it is done with the safety of our children in mind. So you see I have a very strong belief that all children should receive and deserve to have the opportunity to succeed. How we measure success should depend on the individual. Not everyone will become a doctor, lawyer or teacher. We have to fill many positions in our society, that's why we have to be versatile in our teachings. However, I firmly believe that all children, regardless of needs and obstacles, have the ability to learn. And that every child has the right to an education in a safe environment.
