Change of Macbeth in William Shakespeare's Macbeth Throughout the play, Macbeth's character changes from good to evil. As an audience we have many opportunities to observe how he changes and the influences that contribute to the character's alteration. Shakespeare also uses dramatic devices to highlight Macbeth's change. In this essay I will explore the influences that Macbeth was exposed to and the effect that Shakespeare's use of dramatic devices has on the audience's awareness. It is clear from the beginning of the play that Macbeth is a brave war hero. He is also the king's cousin. He may simply be fed up with being just a war hero and may be tempted by the thought of being more, Thane or even King. Ambition may have driven him. In Act 1 scene 3 the three witches greet Macbeth as Lord of Cawdor, Glamis and finally King. When Macbeth listens to the witch's prophecy we see how willing he is to believe it. Later in the scene Macbeth is actually announced as Thaneof Cawdor. In a soliloquy Macbeth reflects on what the witches have predicted: "This supernatural solicitation cannot be sick, it cannot be good. If sick, why has it given me serious success from a truth?" what happened that if it was evil nothing good would come of it. Then he says: "If chance wants me king, chance will crown me without any agitation." From this quote we can see that Macbeth is willing to let fate take its course, and accepts that what will be will be... middle of paper ......the alteration of character of Eth I believe that his wife , LadyMacbeth, had the greatest effect on Macbeth and his actions. Although Macbeth's ambition caused him problems, he realized his flaw and was able to control it until Lady Macbeth intervened. While I would probably be right that the witches brought about all the events that happened in the play and told Macbeth about his future, it wasn't until he spoke to Lady Macbeth that she told him to act on it, if he hadn't, he would have almost had certainly left it to fate. Fear and insecurity undoubtedly played the smallest role in Macbeth's descent into iniquity, although they were present for most of the play. Lady Macbeth herself was truly evil due to her demand for formality and hunger for royalty. It had an immense effect on Macbeth.
