For centuries in the United States, many people have debated whether or not to wear school uniforms. In the United States, most public schools do not require wearing uniforms. However, students are required to wear uniforms in private schools. While in most countries, both in public and private schools, it is mandatory to wear uniform. They also have summer and winter uniforms depending on the weather. There are some pros and cons to wearing uniforms. Most people think that wearing uniforms can help students reduce the rate of gang activity and behave well in school. However, some parents think that wearing the uniform does not guarantee their children's individual rights. Some students think that wearing uniforms means they are suffocating. The disadvantages are the expense of purchasing uniforms for the poor and the violation of freedom of expression. However, students should wear school uniform because it helps prevent gangs from forming on campus, encourages discipline and improves learning skills. The rate of gang activity at school is reduced by wearing school uniforms. Encourage some schools to wear uniforms. The decrease in gang activity causes students to increase school safety. Since 1994, 83,000 students have requested that elementary and middle schools wear uniforms (Portner 1). With the opening of 56 elementary schools and 14 middle schools in the fall of 1994 (prepositional phrase) student fighting decreased. From 1994 to 1995, the rate of assault, battery, physical confrontation, and suspension in grades K-8 had decreased by 34%, 51%, 32%, respectively (Portner 1). It also helps build a group of gangsters when they wear uniforms because people will notice which school they go to when they see them on the street. As for fashionable clothes, students do not need to compare themselves for famous brands. They don't need to think about what to wear every day. However, some parents still think that there are no individual rights for their children and support the uniform policy. People don't realize that school uniform is much more convenient than having a dress code policy. Even the courts are more supportive of school uniform than dress code policy. The dress code policy has many rules to obey, while the uniform must only wear the type of clothing provided by the schools. Wearing school uniforms makes students remain more disciplined and focus on their studies and feel less pressure.
