“The Seduction”In this assignment I will analyze 'The Seduction' by Eileen McAuley. It's about a girl who is seduced by a boy/man. It all started at a party where she met him, one thing led to another. It's now been three months and he's thinking about how he messed up his life. 'So she cried that she had missed all the innocence around her.' This is a quote that shows that she is looking and thinking about what she has missed. But now she has to start a new life as a young mother without the baby's father to be close to her and take care of him. Being set in a dark and lifeless place called "Birkenhead Docks", to me this means that she thought it was a perfect place because no one was around to see what happens, if something happens, for example he attacks her and she goes to the police, there are no witnesses to this attack. 'He sat in the darkness' darkness brings bad things. Since you can't see well, you are unsure of everything around you. My opinion is; yes, I understand that he wants privacy but also no, because he knows that she won't see what he is doing to her. 'He spat in the river' the water nearby is dirty. This shows that they are not in a wealthy area. Since the bridge is located around water, it is also away from traffic and buildings. I quote "far beyond the silvery flow of traffic through the city, far from the blind windows of the tower blocks." The young innocent girl puts her life at risk... "He handed her the vodka and she poured it back like water" being if you were in her position, given the vodka, you wouldn't know what to do. You can't refuse because that would be rude. How can I imagine his feelings and his heart beating fast. He trembles with nerves. "She giggled, drunk and nervous" she already drank too much, you can tell from her giggles....... middle of paper... you disgrace this boy/man who did this to her. You feel annoyed by both of them because he stared at her like that, but the girl let him. No matter how much he drank, he should have known what to do instead of going along with it. “He sobbed in the cool, closed darkness of his room.” I myself feel happy right now as he is learning what a BIG mistake it was. I feel sorry for this girl as she looks back on going to Blackpool and misses them. You think how much fun she must have had with her friends on all the rides, but that's all in the past now because she's pregnant. Overall, I found this poem upsetting because it can happen to anyone if you're not careful. If I found myself in this situation I wouldn't know what to do. But what would you do? Eileen McAuley is trying to teach readers to always be aware that this type of accident could happen to one of you readers.
